How to fix Active Desktop Recovery error message?

To fix an Active Desktop Recovery Script error click Start followed by Run and type regedit into the box. Select HKEY CURRENT USER followed by Software, Microsoft, IE, Desktop and SafeMODE. After selecting components, the value of DeskHtmlVersion should be set to 0 and the settings saved before closing the registry.
If you are getting the "Active Desktop Recovery" error message at Startup, then follow the below procedure:

Click on Start> Run > type "regedit".
Expand the following key:
HKEY CURRENT USER ->Software -> Microsoft - > internet Explorer -> Desktop -> SafeMODE -> components
Set the value of DeskHtmlVersion to 0.
Save your settings and close the registry.

You can also attempt to reset Internet Explorer back to defaults to see if that resolves the issue.

4. Click on the 'Advanced' tab and select 'Reset...' at the very bottom of the Window

    Open the Control Panel.

    Click the Customize Desktop button.
    Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.

If you wish to enable the Active Desktop, check My Current Home Page. Add your current home page into your desktop or click New to add another web page or other Active Desktop features. To update the content, click the Synchronize button.

If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure all checkboxes in this window are un-checked.

Microsoft Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 users

    Open the Control Panel.
    Open the Display icon.
    Click the Web tab in the Display Properties window.

If you wish to enable the Active Desktop, check the checkbox for "Show Web content on my Active Desktop" and select the home page you wish to use as the active desktop.

If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure that "Show Web content on my Active Desktop" is unchecked

A lease agreement for Transmission Capacity services was signed between Bangla Phone Limited (BPL) and Robi Axiata Limited, a leading Mobile Phone Operator, on May 14, 2013. Linux DNS server BIND configuration

This article is a quick configuration manual of a Linux DNS server using bind. I believe that bind do not need much introduction, but before you proceed with the installation and configuration of bind nameserver make sure that bind DNS server is exactly what you want. Default setup and execution of bind on Debian or Ubuntu may take around 200MB of RAM with no zones added to the config file. Unless you reduce the memory usage of a bind via various bind "options" config settings, be prepared to have some spare RAM available just for this service. This fact is even more important if you pay for your own VPS server.

Another DNS nameservers available on a Linux systems are NSD ( Name Server Daemon) or djbdns ( tinydns ). Both are lightweight alternatives to bind9 DNS server and have less RAM requirements. Apparently are even faster.
In this article we will not go into details of what Domain Name Service ( DNS ) is nor how DNS works. Rather we simply concentrate in a simple configuration of a custom zone and config file for a given domain / host supporting www, mail services.
Sample scenario notes to help you ready this DNS bind howto:

nameserver IP address 192.168.135.130
sample domain / host: linuxconfig.org
authoritative nameservers for a linuxconfig.org zone: ns1.linuxconfig.org ( 192.168.0.10 ) and ns2.linuxconfig.org ( 192.168.0.11 )

Red Hat versions 5.1 and earlier used the BIND 4.x package, which used a slightly different format for its configuration file. BIND 8.x offers more functionality over that offered by BIND 4.x, and as 4.x is no longer being developed, you should probably consider upgrading your BIND package to the latest version. Simply install the BIND RPM package (see Section 10.1 for details on using the RPM utility), then convert your configuration file to the new format.
Fortunately, converting your existing BIND 4.x configuration file to be compliant with BIND 8.x is easy! In the documentation directory provided as part of BIND (for example, ``/usr/doc/bind-8.1.2/'' for BIND version 8.1.2), there exists a file called ``named-bootconf.pl'', which is an executable Perl program. Assuming you have Perl installed on your system, you can use this program to convert your configuration file. To do so, type the following commands (as root):

cd /usr/doc/bind-8.1.2
./named-bootconf.pl < /etc/named.boot > /etc/named.conf
mv /etc/named.boot /etc/named.boot-obsolete

You should now have an ``/etc/named.conf'' file which should work with BIND 8.x "out-of-the-box". Your existing DNS tables will work as-is with the new version of BIND, as the format of the tables remains the same.
Configuration of DNS services under Linux involves the following steps:

To enable DNS services, the ``/etc/host.conf'' file should look like this:

The extra spoof detection adds a bit of a performance hit to DNS lookups (although negligible), so if you're not too worried about this you may wish to disable the "nospool" and "alert" entries.

Configure the ``/etc/hosts'' file as needed. Typically there doesn't need to be much in here, but for improved performance you can add any hosts you access often (such as local servers) to avoid performing DNS lookups on them.

The ``/etc/named.conf'' file should be configured to point to your DNS tables according to the example below.

Tip: Tip: Make note of the allow-transfer options above, which restricts DNS zone transfers to a given IP address. In our example, we are allowing the host at 123.12.41.40 (probably a slave DNS server in our domain) to request zone transfers. If you omit this option, anyone on the Internet will be able to request such transfers. As the information provided is often used by spammers and IP spoofers, I strongly recommend you restrict zone transfers except to your slave DNS server(s), or use the loopback address, ``127.0.0.1'' instead.

Now you can set up your DNS tables in the ``var/named/'' directory as configured in the ``/etc/named.conf'' file in step three. Configuring DNS database files for the first time is a major undertaking, and is beyond the scope of this document. There are several guides, online and in printed form that should be referred to. However, several examples are provided below.

What is Scavenging?
Most of you reading this will already know what DNS Scavenging is. For those of you that don’t it is a feature of Windows DNS servers which allows you to automate the deletion (scavenge) of outdated DNS resource records. It sounds simple enough and it is once you decipher Microsoft’s cryptic descriptions, but to the uninitiated it is just plain confusing and often leads to unpredictable results. This article will attempt to simplify how DNS scavenging works.

Windows 2000's DNS service supports the scavenging feature, which helps you ensure that DNS records managed by the service are up to date. Scavenging is particularly important if you use Dynamic DNS to automatically register client host names when their IP addresses change, as is often the case when the clients receive address assignments through DHCP.

Scavenging is set in three places on a Windows Server:

On the individual resource record to be scavenged.
On a zone to be scavenged.
At one or more servers performing scavenging.

Enabling DNS Scavenging on Zones

The first thing we need to do is enable Scavenging. This is done separately for each DNS zone. To enable scavenging on all zones see “Enable Scavenging on All Zones” below. To enable scavenging right click the DNS zone, select properties and then on the general tab select the “ageing” button.

Tick the box “Scavenge Stale resource Records” and leave the rest to their defaults.
Here is where the confusion starts. The No-Refresh and Refresh Intervals are not when resource records get scavenged. They are timers for when DNS records become eligible for scavenging. The actual scavenging process is done elsewhere.

Enable Scavenging on All Zones

To enable scavenging for all zones right click the DNS server name and select “Set Ageing/Scavenging for all DNS zones”

It is important to point out that this will only enable scavenging on NEW zones. To apply it to existing zones tick the box (on next pop-up) that says “Apply these settings to the existing AD zones”.

You can configure scavenging through a zone's properties.

Open the DNS console, right-click the zone, and choose Properties.
On the General tab, click Aging to open the Zone Aging/Scavenging Properties dialog box.
Set the Refresh Interval and the No-refresh Interval using the drop-down lists.
Select the Scavenge Stale Resource Records check box, and click OK to close both dialog boxes.

Reasons for getting DNS Server Not Responding Error

The server which host the website might be temporarily down due to technical reasons
The DNS service in your computer is corrupted or not working
The security firewall or security software itself might have accidentally blocked your PC from communicating with a website or certain websites

How to narrow down the source of DNS server not Responding Error?

If you have another computer or mobile device accessing internet from the same network, then check if they are able to access internet. The other mobile device can be a smart phone or tablet. If the other devices have internet connection, then this is an issue with your computer. If the other devices are not able to access internet, don’t waste any time and contact your ISP. Explain them the scenario and they will help. (Some ISP technicians are quick to blame your computer for this issue)

Try to access internet using safe mode with networking. It is explained below under the section “How to fix DNS Server Not Responding Error because of a corrupted security”. If your computer is able to access internet in safe mode with networking, a security software or conflicting third party software might be responsible for the problem.

How to Fix 'Dns Server Not Responding'?

1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.

2. Right click on the connection that you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties".

3. Click to select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", and then click "Properties".

4. In the Internet Protocol window, let's change the "Preferred DNS server" to 208.67.222.222

5. Click 'OK' twice to complete the modification.

If the issue persists, please repeat the steps and change the "Preferred DNS server" to 208.67.220.220.

Meanwhile, I would appreciate your help in clarifying that if the network is based on a router or a DSL modem. If there is a router, please bypass it and connect to DSL modem directly for a test.

I suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.

2. Right click on the connection that you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties".

What is this tool?

The domain name system (DNS) stores and associates many types of information with registered domain names (like dnsstuff.com). It also translates domain names to IP addresses and records the mail servers that accept mail for each domain. The DNS Lookup test performs a standard DNS lookup, and returns details about the specified record type(s) as well as additional useful information about the domain's DNS entries. Example: For the A record type, a DNS lookup provides information about how the domain or host name is resolved to an IP address (example, 192.168.1.1).

How do the results help me?

To Verify Your DNS Entries Typically, you'll use this tool to make sure that your DNS entries are correct (for example, making sure that the A record for your domain points to the IP address of your website).
To Determine the Mail Servers for Particular Domain You might use this tool to find out what server(s) accept email for a specific domain (by doing an MX record lookup).

Solved: Windows Live Mail error: 0x800CCC90

I have an "old" Windows 7 computer that I am transferring to a "new" laptop running Windows 7. Both are running Windows Live Mail 2012. All is well except for email. I have 4 email addresses that are used. The properties of all 4 are the same on both computers. I can run send & receive on the "old" and all is well. When I do the same on the laptop I get the following error message for 1 of the addresses. Same address all the time. The other 3 all have ne.twcbc.com as their server.

Click on the Servers Tab 6a. Under the section labelled Incoming Mail Server please check you've entered your username in the text box labelled Account Name:, in lowercase.
6b. Please check you've entered the correct password in the box labelled Password:. Make sure that the Remember Password box has been ticked.

How to fix Server Error in 'yourApp' Application

We get asked about this so much it deserves to be shown here. This error doesn't mean a lot except that your site is broken. That's not much help to you figuring out why its broken.
The error page does actually tell you exactly what you need to do to proceed, but for some reason, people don't read it or think that they should not follow these directions. I remember the first time I ran into this error, and I didn't follow the directions, so you aren't alone if that describes you.
Server Error web config

Step 1:

Open the web.config file of your application.
Find 'customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" '.

Step 2:

Replace "RemoteOnly" with "Off".
*** It is very important that you use capital "O" and lower case "ff", as the web.config file is case sensitive, and if you get that wrong, you will continue to get the same error, even if you managed to fix the original error.

Step 3:

Run your application again, and you should now see a different error with the stack trace. This is the same way you would see the error if it was running on your own computer.

I'm getting "Server Error in '/' Application". What does this mean?

It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

This happens because you've not configured WebMail Pro virtual directory as an application in your IIS. To do this, run your IIS Manager (Start / Settings / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Internet Information Services) and open WebMail Pro virtual directory properties, then click Create button in Application Settings section of Virtual Directory tab:

If you see the following in the error details:
The WebResource.axd handler must be registered in the configuration to process this request.
that's a well-known problem of IIS 7 if you have ColdFusion installed on your server. To get rid of this error, you need to remove default ColdFusion handler mapping entries from WebMail Pro application through your IIS 7 Manager. Once that's done, ASP.NET starts working properly.

Using the pathping command

The pathping command is a route tracing tool that combines features of the ping and tracert commands with additional information that neither of those tools provides. The pathping command sends packets to each router on the way to a final destination over a period of time, and then computes results based on the packets returned from each hop. Since the command shows the degree of packet loss at any given router or link, it is easy to determine which routers or links might be causing network problems. A number of switches are available, as shown in the following table.

-p	Period	Number of milliseconds to wait between pings.

-T	Layer Two tag	Attaches a Layer Two priority tag (for example, for IEEE 802.1p) to the packets and sends it to each of the network devices in the path. This helps in identifying the network devices that do not have Layer Two priority configured properly. The -T switch is used to test for Quality of Service (QoS) connectivity.
-R	RSVP test	Checks to determine whether each router in the path supports the Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), which allows the host computer to reserve a certain amount of bandwidth for a data stream.

The default number of hops is 30, and the default wait time before a time-out is 3 seconds. The default period is 250 milliseconds, and the default number of queries to each router along the path is 100.

When pathping is run, you first see the results for the route as it is tested for problems. This is the same path that is shown by the tracert command. The pathping command then displays a busy message for the next 125 seconds (this time varies by the hop count). During this time, pathping gathers information from all the routers previously listed and from the links between them. At the end of this period, it displays the test results.
The two rightmost columns--This Node/Link Lost/Sent=Pct and Address--contain the most useful information. The link between 172.16.87.218 (hop 1), and 192.168.52.1 (hop 2) is dropping 13 percent of the packets. All other links are working normally. The routers at hops 2 and 4 also drop packets addressed to them (as shown in the This Node/Link column), but this loss does not affect their forwarding path.
The loss rates displayed for the links (marked as a | in the rightmost column) indicate losses of packets being forwarded along the path. This loss indicates link congestion. The loss rates displayed for routers (indicated by their IP addresses in the rightmost column) indicate that those routers’ CPUs might be overloaded. These congested routers might also be a factor in end-to-end problems, especially if packets are forwarded by software routers.

    Click Start, then click Run.

    Type pathping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx > C:\pathping.txt and press Enter. Fill in the appropriate server address.

What Is 'Telnet'?
Telnet is a simple, text-based program that allows you to connect to another computer by using the Internet. If you've been granted the right to connect to that computer by that computer's owner or administrator, Telnet will allow you to enter commands used to access programs and services that are on the remote computer, as if you were sitting right in front of it. Telnet can be used for many things, including accessing e‑mail, databases, or files.
SSH is required to establish remote terminal connections to Indiana University's central systems. SSH is similar to telnet, but is far more secure

Telnet is a protocol that allows you to connect to remote computers (called hosts) over a TCP/IP network (such as the Internet). Using telnet client software on your computer, you can make a connection to a telnet server (i.e., the remote host). Once your telnet client establishes a connection to the remote host, your client becomes a virtual terminal, allowing you to communicate with the remote host from your computer.

What is ARP (Address Resolution Protocol)?

Short for Address Resolution Protocol, a network layer protocol used to convert an IP address into a physical address (called a DLC address), such as an Ethernet address. A host wishing to obtain a physical address broadcasts an ARP request onto the TCP/IP network. The host on the network that has the IP address in the request then replies with its physical hardware address.

There is also Reverse ARP (RARP) which can be used by a host to discover its IP address. In this case, the host broadcasts its physical address and a RARP server replies with the host's IP address.

Network File System (NFS)

NFS allows a system to share directories and files with others over a network. By using NFS, users and programs can access files on remote systems almost as if they were local files.

Some of the most notable benefits that NFS can provide are:

Local workstations use less disk space because commonly used data can be stored on a single machine and still remain accessible to others over the network.
There is no need for users to have separate home directories on every network machine. Home directories could be set up on the NFS server and made available throughout the network.
Storage devices such as floppy disks, CDROM drives, and USB Thumb drives can be used by other machines on the network. This may reduce the number of removable media drives throughout the network.

Installation

At a terminal prompt enter the following command to install the NFS Server:

sudo apt-get install nfs-kernel-server

Configuration

You can configure the directories to be exported by adding them to the /etc/exports file. For example:

/ubuntu  *(ro,sync,no_root_squash)
/home    *(rw,sync,no_root_squash)

You can replace * with one of the hostname formats. Make the hostname declaration as specific as possible so unwanted systems cannot access the NFS mount.

To start the NFS server, you can run the following command at a terminal prompt:

sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server start

NFS Client Configuration

Use the mount command to mount a shared NFS directory from another machine, by typing a command line similar to the following at a terminal prompt:

sudo mount example.hostname.com:/ubuntu /local/ubuntu

The mount point directory /local/ubuntu must exist. There should be no files or subdirectories in the /local/ubuntu directory.

An alternate way to mount an NFS share from another machine is to add a line to the /etc/fstab file. The line must state the hostname of the NFS server, the directory on the server being exported, and the directory on the local machine where the NFS share is to be mounted.

The general syntax for the line in /etc/fstab file is as follows:

example.hostname.com:/ubuntu /local/ubuntu nfs rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr

If you have trouble mounting an NFS share, make sure the nfs-common package is installed on your client. To install nfs-common enter the following command at the terminal prompt:

sudo apt-get install nfs-common

Web server configuration

Plug-in configuration involves configuring the Web server to use the binary plug-in module that WebSphere Application Server provides. Plug-in configuration also includes updating the plug-in XML configuration file to reflect the current application server configuration. The binary module uses the XML file to help route Web client requests.

After installing a supported Web server, you must install a binary plug-in module for the Web server. The plug-in module lets the Web server communicate with the application server. The Plug-ins installation wizard installs the Web server plug-in. The wizard configures the Web server. The wizard also creates a Web server definition in the configuration of the application server. The Plug-ins installation wizard uses the following files to configure a plug-in for the Web server that you select:

The Web server configuration file on the Web server machine, such as the httpd.conf file for IBM HTTP Server.
The binary Web server plug-in file that the Plug-ins installation Wizard installs on the Web server machine.
The plug-in configuration file, plugin-cfg.xml, on the application server machine that you propagate (copy) to a Web server machine.
The default (temporary) plug-in configuration file, plugin-cfg.xml, on the Web server machine.
The configureweb_server_name script that you copy from the Web server machine to the application server machine.

The wizard must reconfigure the configuration file for a supported Web server.

Now it is time to change your Apache configuration, to make the new project accessible to the world.
Locate and open the httpd.conf configuration file and add the following configuration at the end:

The /sf alias gives you access to images and javascript files needed to properly display default symfony pages and the web debug toolbar.
On Windows, you need to replace the Alias line with something like:

And /home/sfproject/web should be replaced with:

c:\dev\sfproject\web

This configuration makes Apache listen to port 8080 on your machine, so the website will be accessible at the following URL:

http://localhost:8080/

You can change 8080 to any number, but favour numbers greater than 1024 as they do not require administrator rights.

Configure a dedicated Domain Name

If you are an administrator on your machine, it is better to setup virtual hosts instead of adding a new port each time you start a new project. Instead of choosing a port and add a Listen statement, choose a domain name (for instance the real domain name with .localhost added at the end) and add a ServerName statement:

The domain name www.myproject.com.localhost used in the Apache configuration has to be declared locally. If you run a Linux system, it has to be done in the /etc/hosts file. If you run Windows XP, this file is located in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ directory.
Add in the following line:

127.0.0.1 www.myproject.com.localhost

Test the New Configuration

Restart Apache, and check that you now have access to the new application by opening a browser and typing http://localhost:8080/index.php/, or http://www.myproject.com.localhost/index.php/ depending on the Apache configuration you chose in the previous section.

If you have the Apache mod_rewrite module installed, you can remove the index.php/ part of the URL. This is possible thanks to the rewriting rules configured in the web/.htaccess file.
You should also try to access the application in the development environment (see the next section for more information about environments). Type in the following URL:

http://www.myproject.com.localhost/frontend_dev.php/

The web debug toolbar should show in the top right corner, including small icons proving that your sf/ alias configuration is correct.
